Down Home Ranch
Down Home Ranch is a country place for kids and adults with special needs. The mission of Down Home Ranch is to build a rural, self-reliant community for adults with mental retardation, offering training, housing, recreation, and dignified employment, as well as opportunities for growth in mind, body, and spirit.
Down Home Ranch needed an update and redesign of their web site. They signed up for the AIR Accessibility Rally for September 2003. Working with a team (Team 404) of novice web coders, Sherri designed a simple site design, mentored, and guided the team on the project to produce the Down Home Ranch's new web site.
The Challenge
Increasing the level of difficulty in web design was an extreme limited time frame. The team had two weeks to design and prepare for the implementation day. In only 8 hours, the team lead by Sherri coded the entire web site from the graphic design. The rules of the rally were to create an accessible web site for the team's non-profit. Every team's site in the rally is judged upon a long list of accessiblity and usability rules. The AIR Accessibility Rally is ran by www.knowbility.org.
